  • keobrandy (bought an apartment in Cyprus)

We have bought an apartment in Cyprus in a block of 15 apartments. We have recently been told that we have to appoint a residents committee to oversee the running of the apartment block and the committee are insisting that we cannot feed stray cats on our own property. Can they do this as there was nothing in our title deeds to say that we had to comply with this committee as it was not in existence when we bought the property?

    Hi---

They can do that if the deeds or documents provide for a residents' committee or association etc.

Then you have to protest the decision through that committee.

Ask for the document that forms the committee and ask to see what powers it has if any. If they cannot show you that then they have no powers.

Thanks for your advice. What sort of documents should the committee have? I am sure that they just set themselves up and then had a vote.
      Thanks again.

If your deed allows or provides for an association or committee it will have to comply with that.

Otherwise ask what is the legal basis for their acts.
