  • Rental payment if tenant goes on vacation?

I rent a room to an international student who left for a 6 week vacation. She returned and has'nt paid me--does she have to pay me if she was not at the house but her room had all her belongings? We don't have any type of legal contract, She's here month to month..

Yes. Just because she was on vacation did not change her rental situation.
Due to a recent promotion, I should now be referred to as Major Obvious.

I would not be trying to provide information and knowledge if I did not sympathize.

Some days it is just not worth chewing through the restraints to face life.

      Absolutely she does.

She left her personal belongings in the room because she didn't intend to vacate permanently. As long as she was in possession of the premises by way of her property remaining there, she owes the rent.

If she is trying to claim she doesn't owe, then I would suggest serving her with a notice to pay or quit IMMEDIATELY.

If you go on vacation, does your mortgage company allow you to skip a payment?

        Of course not.

A fair middle ground would be that she pays rent but maybe certain bills she didn't use (i.e. water, electric) don't have to be paid.
