I started a nonprofit and am one of the 3 Board Members. As we are small and the vision was birth in me I had the responsibility of being Exec Director working round the clock to set the foundation. We recently were awarded funds from NYC Councilmembers and I was told by the managing city agency that I can not be paid a salaray as Exec. Director while I am President on the board. It was suggested that I resign as President/Chair and function solely as Exec. Dir. Is this correct? Our bylaws says that a board member can occupy an executive position and be paid for those services.

There would be a basic fee, probably around 250 to 350 dollars for attorney time, but it likely could get resolved for you. You may email [email protected] if you eventually wish to proceed that way.
Kind regards. Susan Kinney
