The University of Nottingham is a public, co-educational institution of higher learning in the city of Nottingham, England. Nottingham, which has campuses in the United Kingdom and Asia, is the fifth largest university in the UK (as measured by numbers of students), and is a member of the Russell Group, Universitas 21, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the European University Association.

The School of Law
The School of Law at the University of Nottingham is consistently ranked amongst the leading law schools in the United Kingdom and it is a world-ranked centre for legal research and teaching. At the School of Law we have always valued excellence in teaching, allied to a strong research base.
The School of Law has been rated as excellent in both teaching and research. It has achieved an excellent outcome in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, being ranked 4th equal among UK Law Schools. The School returned 100% of its lecturers, associate professors and professors in the Exercise. They are internationally recognised in their fields and active scholars and teachers.
The School is located in the centre of University Park, a beautifully landscaped 330-acre parkland campus.

About the School
With a full-time academic staff of over 40 and a total student population of about 900 across undergraduate and postgraduate study, the School of Law is a dynamic place of research, teaching and learning. Both staff and students are well-supported by an experienced team of administrative staff.
We offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The courses we offer are rigorous and interesting and cover a diverse range of subjects. The undergraduate courses cover the core modules essential for practice as a lawyer and offer a wide choice of optional subjects. We have consistently maintained small tutorial groups for undergraduate students. Our taught masters programmes are designed exclusively for postgraduate students and are characterised by a commitment to seminars and other small group sessions. This small group teaching for both undergraduates and postgraduates enables our students to be directly assisted in their learning and to have effective interaction with their law teachers. The School offers supervision for research degrees in most subject areas of the law, and also for interdisciplinary projects which have a legal aspect.
Our students come from all over the United Kingdom and from all around the world. Some of these take our undergraduate degrees and some our very popular postgraduate degrees and they enrich the lives of all in the School and the University.
The collection of law materials in the University Library is excellent and we have quality computer and other information resources dedicated to Law students, as well as helpful and knowledgeable administrative staff.
Our graduates are much sought after by employers and retain strong affection for the School and the University.

Undergraduate Degrees
The courses provided by the School of Law are designed to facilitate a knowledge and understanding of legal principles and an understanding of the operation of law in society. They are of value not only to those who intend to enter the legal profession, but also to the many law students who intend to enter a wide variety of other occupations.
The School of Law is consistently ranked amongst the top Law Schools in the United Kingdom and it is among the leading centres for legal research and teaching in the world. Many of the academic staff in the School have very high international reputations in their fields and all of them are active scholars and teachers.
With a full-time academic staff of over 40 and a total student population of around 900, the School of Law is a dynamic place of research, teaching and learning. Our students and staff come from all over the United Kingdom and the world.
Teaching and learning
At the School of Law we have always valued excellence in teaching, allied to a strong research base. Our teaching was rated as ‘excellent’ and our research was awarded a grade 5A (excellent) when the Higher Education Funding Council last assessed the School.
The undergraduate courses we offer are rigorous and interesting, and they cover a diverse range of subjects. Teaching is primarily by lecture and tutorial class, but some modules are taught by discussion groups and seminars. The collection of law materials in the University Library is excellent (the Law section of the Hallward Library has around 55,000 volumes) and we have quality computer and other information resources dedicated to Law students.
Professional recognition and exemption
The LLB, the BA Law and (if appropriate optional modules are selected) the BA Law with French or German degrees are Qualifying Law Degrees allowing exemption from the whole of the Common Professional Examination (CPE)/Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) of the Law Society and the Bar. Graduates wishing to qualify as barristers or solicitors may proceed directly to the vocational stage of legal training – for solicitors, the Legal Practice Course, and for barristers, the Bar Vocational Course. A number of institutions offering these courses guarantee a place for Nottingham graduates with at least a lower second class degree.
Study abroad
Students registered on the BA Law and LLB courses can apply, at the beginning of year two, to be transferred onto one of our four-year degree courses with the opportunity to spend one year abroad. It is a competitive process, but students that are successful can study in America, Australia, China, Europe, New Zealand or South East Asia.
Students registered on BA Law with French and BA Law with German are, subject to satisfactory completion of years one and two, guaranteed a place at one of our partner universities during their third year of study.

Postgraduate Taught Masters Degrees
The School of Law’s programme of Taught Masters degrees has proved immensely popular since its inception in 1987. An impressive series of specialist degrees is supported by a diverse range of over 50 modules that are specific to the postgraduate programme. And the diversity of the programme is matched by the cosmopolitan nature of the student body: each year we admit about 150 students, typically from over 40 different countries around the globe.
We are committed to a high quality programme. It is a research-led programme. All Faculty members are active researchers, and the teaching on the taught masters programmes benefits directly from the research of participating Faculty. It is a postgraduate programme. All modules are offered specifically to postgraduate students and do not form part of our undergraduate programmes. Class sizes are monitored. Every effort is made to ensure a class size conducive to an intellectually stimulating debate. It is an evolving programme. New modules and new specialisms reflect the dynamic intellect of the Faculty and the changing international environment.
Graduates from Nottingham’s taught masters programme have progressed to a wide variety of successful careers, from private sector legal practice to government legal service, from universities to industry and commerce, from non-governmental organizations to the United Nations.
