Re: Empire College School of Law (California)
Empire College, located in Santa Rosa, California, is a private college accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. It is unaccredited by the American Bar Association. The College began in 1961 with its School of Business, which offers an alternative to the traditional two- or four-year college program. Programs are directed toward practical knowledge and career training designed to get graduates on the job in as short a time as possible in the following fields: accounting, information technology, legal, medical, office administration, and tourism/hospitality.
School of Law
Empire College School of Law, founded in 1973, is a four-year evening program approved by the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California. Empire graduates comprise approximately 25 percent of the Sonoma County Bar and include members of the judiciary in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and Merced counties. As a local resource, the School of Law has become an integral part of the legal community with many students becoming involved in the field as law clerks prior to graduation. This networking has been beneficial to their success in passing the Bar Examination, as well as finding employment in the North Bay legal community.
Following a year of construction, the college opened its new campus in January 2000 which includes, as tenants, two California superior courts for the County of Sonoma at which civil cases are conducted. This collaboration with the legal community has benefited both the Business School's paralegal students and the Law School's students whose Moot Court and Trial Practice classes are held in the courtrooms.
Bar Pass Rate
Empire College School of Law is proud to be among the top California Accredited Law Schools. Since opening in 1973, approximately 80 percent of Empire School of Law graduates who have taken the California Bar Exam have passed. Over the last five years, Empire School of Law has consistently achieved one of the highest pass rates for California Accredited Law Schools, including being ranked second in the state on the February 2004 exam.
