School of Law Frequently Asked Questions -- FAQ

At the University of Baltimore School of Law, students learn doctrine, perspective and skills through traditional study and through clinical and lawyering courses. Their education is enriched by work on journals, membership in student organizations and government, and by centers focused on local, national and global issues.
Q: What are the median LSAT and GPA required to attend the University of Baltimore School of Law?
A: A: For full-time day students the median LSAT for the 2007 entering class was 155 and the median GPA is 3.35. We anticipate a more competitive entering class in Fall 2008. Some applicants to the day program may be admitted to the Part-Time Limited program by the admission committee.

Q: What is the age range of students in the entering class?
A: The overall age range of the class is 22-58. The median age for the day division is 24; the median age for the evening division is 27.

Q: How many students attend UB School of Law and what is the staff/student ratio?

Q: Does UB have a preference for in-state residents?
A: Though Maryland residents are afforded the substantial benefit of lower “in-state tuition,” all applications are seriously considered for possible admission to the UB School of Law.

Q: Other than Maryland, what were the top states represented in the entering class?
A: Members of the class come from 22 other states and Washington, D.C. Sixteen percent are non-residents, the greatest number of whom are from New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Q: What undergraduate colleges did the entering class attend?
A: Members of the class graduated from more than 153 colleges and universities, including most of Maryland's public and private schools. Some of the other schools represented include, George Washington, Penn State, Vanderbilt, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Clemson, Ohio State, Florida State, Bucknell and University of Virginia.

Q: I've heard that in order to be seriously considered for acceptance, I must have an undergraduate degree in Political Science, English, or History. Is this true?
A: Not necessarily. Though it is important to possess a strong academic background, the members of the 2008 entering class pursued 63 different undergraduate majors, including accounting, biology, business, journalism, drama, kinesiology and engineering.

Q: Do many students attend graduate school before pursuing legal studies?
A: Many students decide to attend law school after obtaining an advanced degree. Some choose to pursue a combined JD/Masters while attending the Law School.

Q: How soon can I apply? How much does it cost?
A: Applications are now being accepted. There is no application deadline. However priority will be given to applications received by March 1st. Applicants may complete the LSAC online application ($60 fee), the Law School online application ($50 fee) or a paper application ($60 fee). See our Application Guide for more details.
