JGLS will strive to inculcate in students a sense of professionalism, responsibility towards society, respect for the rule of law and fundamental freedoms of others as well the virtues of honesty, integrity and rectitude in their relationships with others.
Contemporary topics, pedagogy and multi-media instruction in the classroom will be complemented by fieldwork to gain insights into the practical side of law. Students will intern with leading law firms, lawyers, judges and NGOs. Students will be involved with legal aid clinics where they will contribute to societal betterment of those living in poverty and empowerment of disadvantaged groups through law. With such relevant legal education, students graduating from the JGLS will have excellent job opportunities in diverse fields, both in India and abroad.
The JGLS plans to develop research capacities in several different areas of law. Research in law and its administration should also focus on the need for the protection of the rule of law and its impact on governance. The JGLS will respect the freedom of scholars to collaborate and develop useful partnerships and research exchange relationships with other individuals and institutions that are in India and abroad. Topics will include: critical analysis and interpretation of legislation and case law; highlighting practical legal issues confronting society and the individual; economy and the state; interdisciplinary and comparative study of law; and the preparation of materials or reports for submission to legislatures, courts, administrative bodies, national and international agencies.
Strategic collaborations are underway with law schools across the globe to enrich JGLS legal education with curriculum development, law library development, faculty and student exchanges, research partnerships, joint conferences and other types of engagement. Technology will be used to enhance global perspectives through videoconferencing of team-taught classes and joint seminars.
