  • Canada: Schools with only non-professional degrees

These offer undergraduate and/or graduate school programs in law or legal studies, but they are not professional degrees and do not confer the ability to practice law in any jurisdiction.

    Royal Roads University

The Military Law Centre on the grounds of Royal Military College of Canada, in Kingston, Ontario, staffed with 12 military lawyers, oversees the education of officers and troops in legal matters ranging from the Canadian Forces' own code of conduct to the laws of war. It trains military lawyers and advises Ottawa on matters of policy and doctrine. The centre integrates legal education into the regular training that Forces members undergo and establishes its growing importance within the military hierarchy.

Re: Canada: Schools with only non-professional degrees

Royal Roads University does not offer a law degree. We offer a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies which targets people who work, or are pursuing a career in the justice system. This foundational degree draws knowledge from a number of academic disciplines including law, criminology, sociology, philosophy, political science, computer science, social work and public administration. As an applied program, the Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies also focuses on the acquisition of practical justice service skills. In this respect, special attention is given to alternative dispute resolution skills. This special focus reflects recent changes within the Canadian legal system that encourage greater use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms instead of the adversarial approach.
