University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (well known as UPES) is a college situated in the Pondha valley of Dehradun. It has the boon of exquisite beauty which will make you feel alive and soon you will fall in love with this ethereal place. The mountains at the back of the college, mostly covered with ice, the gray lane in between and the greenery at its best on the way upto UPES gives a serene feeling. To sum up, it is no less than a hill station, and probably even more than that!
I completed my sophomore year at UPES and is now currently in my third year of law school. When I thought of my days spent at UPES so far, the very first thing which comes up in my mind is the weird dress code system and the tiresome schedule in my first year. However, now we are accustomed to the college dress code plus the long college hours and have finally realized the importance of it. Wi-fi across the campus, a library with organized collection of books, a sprawling sports ground, students bubbling with zest all over the campus adds to the learning environment of the college. Cultural events like ‘Uurja’ & ‘jus carnivalli in which students from all across the country participates are also held annually.
Campus
UPES campus is spread over 25 acres on the foothills of Himalaya in Dehradun. For refreshments and recreation various spot such as food court, cafeteria, amphi-threater, sports ground, meditative classes are available on the campus. Facilities such as campus hostel, wifi, library, moot court room, computer center, counselling sessions of students, industry tours, placement selection improvement sessions, multimedia enabled classrooms etc. are also provided to students.
Academics
UPES provides undergraduate programs on B.A. LL.B (Hons.) with specialisation in energy laws, BBA.LL.B(Hons.) withspecialisation in corporate laws and has taken initiative in bringing out a new combination of programs like B. Tech LL.B with specialization in IPR, B. Tech LL.B. with specialization in cyber laws.
Library
The library provides great learning enviroment. It offers latest learning technologies, access to specialized portals on Oil & Gas and Power related information, online learning management systems, WestLaw International for UK law information, legalpundits.com ,Manupatra for latest Supreme Court and High Court judgements, various ebooks and online journals. The only problem with the library is that there are limited number of course books available due to which there is rush in the library to get the books.

Events such as Dr. Parag Diwan Memorial National Energy Laws moot court competition and annual Intra-Moot court competition , UPES MUN, Parliamentary debate competitions are held on regular basis in college. Cultural events such as Uurja and law fest ( jus carnivalli) are celebrated by students with great zeal.
Scholarship
Scholarship are provided at UPES solely on academic merit basis with 25% fee waiver. However, determination of the scholarship provision rests with the university and the policy can change from time to time.
