    CALIFORNIA

Is it possible to sue an employer that promises to move you to Europe in 6 months and then cancels it all due to covid, supposedly?

    You'd lose.

Never rely on any employer's promises.

That seems to be the consensus, you are right. Not really enough of a firm commitment and agreement/contract I guess.

Even a bona fide written contract, signed by employer and employee, might not prevent the cancellation of a promised move.

Comprehensive employment contracts often have a "force majeure" provision allowing the contract to be canceled in the event of a catastrophe beyond the parties' control.

They can also be written with an escape clause allowing the employer to cancel under a variety of circumstances.

That's why you must always thoroughly and carefully read and understand every word of a contract, and its potential consequences, before you sign it. And keep a copy of what you sign.
