  • Angel Investor from the UK (demanding to send 'terrorist checks')

    Country: United Kingdom

We are American Citizens that found an Angel Investor from the UK to fund our project for $1,000,000. We paid the UK Lawyer $6,600 to write up the contract/agreement, then we were transferred over to the Investor\'s accountant. We sent the accountant $10,000 at his request, for setting up the account. (He said this was refundable). Now he says that after the board of directors have discussed the matter, we will have to send the 12,500 GBP (which will be at least $24,000) to assure that there is no terrorist activities involved with the money, or for us to fly to London and pay 24,000 GBP ($48,000) for the transferring of the funds. Does this sound right? Is this really their legal protocol? How would we find out if this is fraud? We have their company numbers, telephone numbers, addresses, and they have called us frequently. What should we do?

This is a very common fraud...we see it every day...there is no such thing as these terrorist checks etc. You need to report this to your police dept and the FBI and see the article below. The scam you are involved with is a version of this. There are no real lawyers or accountants involved...that has all been a lie.
