We the attorneys at the Bukh Law Firm, P.C. (14 Wall Street, New York NY 10005, (212) 729-1632) have been hired to represent Mr. Lakhinder Vohra. Mr. Vohra is a real estate broker for the Nest Builder’s firm and a prominent member of the community who is now being targeted by several of New York’s media outlets with unfair depictions of his character. We feel we must respond to the one-sided and less than factual interpretations of events that were alleged to have happened yesterday between Mr. Vohra and another individual.
The Daily Mail has moved quickly to release that our client was arrested last night for the alleged rape of a 26 year old female he met off of SeekingArrangement.com. Reporting this story as fact when the individual has yet to be arraigned by the courts is not entirely ethical journalism, but not surprising in today’s world of tabloid journalism. It is unfortunate for not only my client but the judicial process that these news outlets have been quick to convict Mr. Vohra so that they could drum up readers for their otherwise dull reporting day here in New York. As usual, they have ignored his accomplishments and his charitable works to paint a rather one-sided picture of Mr. Vorha, with the worst of them, The New York Post, branding him a braggart and a “fat cat”, creating an image of him that may have a profound effect upon the public’s image of this respected businessman and make it more difficult for Mr. Vohra to receive a fair trial.
We believe in our client. Having talked to Mr. Vohra we do not see a man that is a “fat cat” as the NYP called him, but a soft-spoken individual with a great deal of integrity. His wealth and high profile lifestyle have made him a target, and we feel that when all the facts are revealed in the case, an entirely different picture of our client will emerge.
We must always remember that the US legal system is founded upon the presumption of innocence. Just because you think that you know someone after reading about him in the papers, does not make it so. Rape is not a crime of sexual passion. It is a crime of violence, something our client has absolutely no history of in his past. Remember that Mr. Vohra is a family man who performs a valuable service to his firm and this community. Your rush to judgment can have profound effects not only on Mr.Vohra and his case, but also on his family and coworkers. The courts have released our client on bail and we await the next phase of the legal process where we are able to present our defense and prove that Mr. Vohra is the real victim.
