Child support and Retroactive Child support

I attended a trial conference at Vancouver Robson square, and was explained by a judge that the child support and retroactive child support are also Child support. I totally lost. On the way home, I was wondering the term of son : grand son and son are son; because all of them have same word "son" So all of them are my sons. Is it a joke? Please help any one!!!!!!!!!

Retroactive child support are the payments that the non-custodial parent may be obligated to make, but has not been ordered to yet.
