  • Boston Marathon Bombing - A Message From Legal Junkies

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and families of this tragedy. In the midst of the confusion, tons of fake Facebook and Twitter pages keep popping up purporting to report some made-up aspect of incidents that allegedly happened at the Boston Marathon bombing, or that claim to have video or photo of the alleged bombing suspect.

I've seen fake twitter pages claiming that the 8-year-old child who was killed was a girl who was running for Sandy Hook (false, it was a boy, and totally unrelated to Sandy Hook), a photo still of some suspect standing on a roof, and yet another with a video of some person who is supposed to be a "person of interest" (this one shows a video of someone in a completely unrelated 2011 incident).

BEFORE you share them, use a little common sense and check them out with sites such as Urban Legends Reference Pages, or Latest Email Hoaxes - Current Internet Scams - Hoax-Slayer, to ensure that the claims being made are the genuine article. Misinformation and spreading of hoaxes are only taking attention away from the real story and the genuine efforts being made to find the persons responsible for this tragedy. Don't feed into the hype.

If you are looking for a way to help out, please visit the Boston Children's Hospital Facebook page, where they have posted several links to sources that are accepting donations and assistance from the public:
"If it ain't in writing, it never happened."
"A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."
"You can never make the same mistake twice, because the second time you make it, it's not a mistake, but a CHOICE."
