  • Caribbean marriage

I was married in the caribbean a few months ago and just now received my marriage certificate. However, the marriage certificate was issued in my maiden name. I have been married before so my legal name, of course, is not my maiden name. When I brought this up to the country that I was married in, they said they could not legally issue a marriage certificate in my ex-husbands name. So the question that I have is I am legally married in the U.S.? We were just going to go down to the justice of the peace to make sure it is done properly in the U.S. Please advise.

Yes you still should be married but you can have a US or other judge ratify and confirm the marriage documents if the county clerk or any agency questions it.
