  • Child born in the US: How to maintain her citizenship?

Our 3 months old was born in the US, we are citizens of ST.Lucia. We heard that in order to maintain her citizenship she has to return every 6 months. Is this true?

If she was born in the US i don't think that is true.

She remains a US citizen no matter what.
Check with the embassy and immigration counsel as well.

You child is a US Citizen by birth. The 6 months rule applies for people that are Permanent Resident or otherwise called greencard holder and in order for them to obtain citizenship they need to show that trips that they may have taken didn't last more then 6 months and they did not abandon their residency. Hope this helps.

No. Her being born in the U.S. automatically makes her a U.S. citizen. She's also a citizen of your country. She does not need to return every six months to maintain citizenship.

The U.S. does not recognize dual citizenship.
