It was clear to me. I googled it, and came up with a definitive answer right away. That is why I suggested googling it would have provided the answer.

well google isnt that clear because the exact law that you will not find on google is no there is not a CLM BUT if you kick them out or split for any reason you must give them 30 days to get all of there things and that 30 days is like a CL divorce in a way so it is however you want to look at it..... btw i live in arkansas and im a law major so please save the arguments because you were very rude to the original poster
          HOPE THIS HELPED

A bit of a necropost?? And 30 notice is nothing like a divorce its ll/tenant law. (I don't even know if that is 30 days in AR).

Clearly, a quick look into cl rules shows that while the marriage is lacking in paperwork, the divorce must go through the same channels as a traditionally married couple.

U might want to double check your work before you brag about your law major, my dear.

She mentioned divorce because that is what it would assimilate in such s situation. If you're ending a civil union there is a 30 day allotment for the departing individual to collect his/her belongings before they lose their right to it. In fortunately no, there is no common law in the state of Arkansas.

Common law marriage is not recognized in Arkansas. Here are the states that do:

                  Alabama
                  Colorado
                  Georgia (if created before 1/1/97)
                  Idaho (if created before 1/1/96)
                  Iowa
                  Kansas
                  Montana
New Hampshire (for inheritance purposes only)
                  Ohio (if created before 10/10/91)
Oklahoma (possibly only if created before 11/1/98. Oklahoma's laws and court decisions may be in conflict about whether common law marriages formed in that state after 11/1/98 will be recognized.)
                  Pennsylvania (if created before 1/1/05)
                  Rhode Island
                  South Carolina
                  Texas
                  Utah
                  Washington, D.C.

If people have lived together and accumulated property together, suit can be brought for an equitable division of the property. A few decades ago, Marvin v. Marvin, the California case with actor Lee Marvin set a precedent that some states have followed. In that case the partner got not only assets but an order for alimony/spousal support. That is where the term, "palimony" was coined.

While some states may not go as far as to award monthly income, a division of the assets jointly acquired is equitable.

You cannot be married by common law in Arkansas but I found on searches that if you are married by cl in a state where it IS LEGAL and then live in AR it is legal in AR. -- With this in mind... I should be married by cl since my boyfriend and I (rule #1) consumated it in OK, where it is legal. Casino hotel, W. Siloam Springs, OK. (rule #2) he gave me a cheap ring from a garage sale and said "It looks like a wedding band". I am wearing that ring. (rule #3) I told people we are married by common law as per OK laws. We live in AR but it should be legal here since it occured in a state where cl is legal. Right? He said it wasn't on paper, but that was only paper and we were married by God. He also said he would take care of me and I'd never have to worry about money to buy food or pay my bills. After over a year he found a new girlfriend. Can I make him support me?

I don't know where you got your list of rules but they don't match the states requirements.

                        1) Meaningless
                        2) Looks like wont do. Did he propose with it? Did you accept?
                        3) "I told people we are married by common law as per OK laws." Less than meaningless.

                        Did you:
Take his name, change your DL, SS card? File taxes jointly? Who did HE tell he was married? Obviously not the new gf.

Finally - what would it benefit you if you WERE considered married (without considering the effect of the move to AR)? You'd just have to go through a divorce.

You are totally wrong and he seems to have used and discarded you, I'm sorry. OK only recognizes Common Law marriages formed before November 1, 1998.
Due to a recent promotion, I should now be referred to as Major Obvious.

I would not be trying to provide information and knowledge if I did not sympathize.

Some days it is just not worth chewing through the restraints to face life.

Common law marriages are recognized in Oklahoma only if they were contracted before November 1, 1998. After that date, no more common law marriages.

A visit with a family law attorney might be of some help for there may be some theory of deceipt, fraud that could bring you some damages if not separate maintenance (support).

Actually the courts have upheld common law marriages formed since then.

That said, OP didn't have anything beyond bf/gf status.
