  • Our son has withdrawn from college. Are we responsible?

Our 19 year old son has decided that he does not want to live by the rules in our home. He has withdrawn from college and is "looking" for work. We have conflicting information. Some tell us that we are no longer responsible when the child reaches 18 years of age. Others tell us 21. We live in New York State.

See below--our family faced the same issue in NY; if I understood it all at the time, you are responsible till 21 unless he gets a job and moves out, or otherwise becomes emancipated, however that occurs.
