I am the respondent to a hearing regarding a Domestic Violence Prevention Request for Orders (DV-100). The orders being requested include Personal Conduct (no contact), Stay Away (100 yards), and Payment for Costs/Services (over $100,000). Some of the instructions in the court documents refer to CCP (I think that means California Code of Civil Procedure) sections, which suggests this is a civil case. However, while looking online for an attorney, I found several informational web pages that say Domestic Violence is a criminal charge, with the potential for a conviction to appear as a misdemeanor on my criminal record. If the court agrees with the plaintiff's request and issues a restraining order, does that appear as a misdemeanor on my criminal record?
