  • Disabled stage 4 breast cancer and he left for a divorce?

I have stage 4 breast cancer. My husband left last week telling me he wants a divorce. Our history includes domestic violence on his part with arrest, and emotional abuse. I have used all my retirement during our marriage for standard of living and expenses. I have nothing left. He got me to empty just about everything. He took the higher equitable vehicle which is of course in his name but I made many car pmts on with him agreeing to add me to the title when it is paid off. $19,000 was paid on the loan during our short 6 1/2 yr marriage and 7 1/2 yrs together. I am unable to work. I am on SSD. He basically abandoned me knowing I need assitance in order to survive. He didnt pay any bills upon leaving. Left me no money. He has had issues with pornograhic relationships on the internet and stalked other women and classmates as he attended school.
Can I get spousal support? What other claims do I need to make to the courts since he just up and left? SHould I make copies of the emails he had with other women and how he wanted to start relationships with them of an inappropriate manner while married in order to prove what type of person he is? Should I get statements from friends and family who witnessed abusive situations? What else should I do to try to get support? I am in desperate need here. I am unsure what to do.

Apply for local HUD/disabled housing. How much does hubby earn? You? Your state?
Due to a recent promotion, I should now be referred to as Major Obvious.

I would not be trying to provide information and knowledge if I did not sympathize.

Some days it is just not worth chewing through the restraints to face life.

Again, how much are you receiving on SSDI and how much does hubby earn? Kids?

First, hie yourself to a family law attorney, and preferably one with a lot of experience dealing with contested divorce cases. And batterers. Such abusive people carry their abuse into the court system.

The lawyer will guide you and get the evidence like sworn affidavits where necessary, be able to subpoena financial information, and guide you through the process -- getting as much as the law allows in your situation.
