  • Do I need to attend court? I was stopped in GA for speeding...

    I was stopped in Ash burn,GA for speeding 106 in a 70 mph zone on hwy 75 and arrested and taken to TURNER COUNTY JAIL and issued two citations .one for speeding and another for reckless driving. total i have paid 1672$ fine (487+1185) in jail itself (CASHBOND).
    And they informed me your are good to go and they released me out.
    After coming back to home i noticed that in that 2 yellow slip (Citations) it stated that i need to appear in court on march 26 , 2013 at 5PM.for answering that charges, My question is do i really need to attend the court or it mentioned for just in case if didn't paid the fine?
    Please help me out on this matter..

    I wish to inform you that you have to appear in court. In this regard court will listen to your version of facts which can include that you agree or object the charges and then court will determine your penalty. The quantum of fine is determined by court. At present you have given cash bond and that amount can be adjusted for fine after court has determined amount of fine.

      § 40-6-390 - Reckless driving :: 2010 Georgia Code :: US Codes and Statutes :: US Law :: Justia

      Reckless driving can carry a jail sentence of up to one year in GA. You need a lawyer.
      Due to a recent promotion, I should now be referred to as Major Obvious.

      I would not be trying to provide information and knowledge if I did not sympathize.

      Some days it is just not worth chewing through the restraints to face life.

        Call the clerk of the court who handles traffic fines and see if there is a court date still set on the docket. If so, it should be assigned to the judge who handles traffic court. Some counties have their civil and criminal dockets online.

        If you are still on the trial docket, then contact the judge's clerk, let him or her know you have paid the fine and see what you need to do to get the trial date dismissed.
