  • Scared... I got a visit from two undercover police officers

I got a visit the other day from 2 plain clothed undercover police officers telling me that i would need to make arrangements to come and talk with them. I did and now they r telling me that they have me on video and audio 5 different times of going with a confidential informant and buying them cocaine and that if i didnt work with them i would be going to prison for along time for one the town a live is very small everyone knows everyone and there business i know who the people r that did this to me i hve to small children i am n fear for there and my life. If i decide to work with the police they wouldnt tell me what i was facing what the charges were just that i sold a controlled substance to one of there people that work for them. I dont kno what to do cant talk to anyone about it bc i was told by the police that if i said nething to neone the deal was off and they would send my files to proc att office and i would go to jail for a long time How much time would i face i cant afford an attorney i am a single mother of 2 and i am scared to death dont know what to do any advice would help and i know what i did was wrong i dont do drugs myself u know someone called me looking and i should have told them no but didnt now i hve face the consequences

I wish to inform you that you can contest the charges yourself in court. In this regard you may appear as a pro-se. You can further inform court and obtain legal aid for your legal representation. Further punishment or penalty of selling controlled substance depends upon State laws. It is generally regarded as felony depending upon the amount alleged to be sold. In criminal case standard of proof is beyond reasonable doubt.

You pay for play. The method you choose is up to you. If you inform, you will likely keep your children vs going to prison and losing them.

If the police caught you committing the crime, then it seems you have two choices: Lose your freedom and your children by being prosecuted for it, or cooperate with the police and get clean once and for all.

It's really sad that you have already put your children at risk by your illegal activities in the first place. Make your choice and accept the consequences as you have been dealt.

Go talk to a criminal defense lawyer right away. And be candid about what you have done, who you have been associating with -- what you could possibly know -- and the 'deal' the police are talking about. The lawyer is bound to honor your confidences and is bound to keep your interests above all -- and knows what kinds of deals can be made for informants -- and whether it is your best interests to cooperate with the police or not.

The lawyer may not charge you for the consultation and the interview will be well worth your time.

Totally disregard the previous answer that says to go in pro se to court and ask for Legal Aid. That is exactly what you do not ever want to do. Anytime one is threatened with criminal charges they need a criminal defense lawyer right away. They need to clam up and not say another word past, "I want a lawyer." And only after consultation with a lawyer, at the lawyer's direction, answer what the lawyer tells you to -- and no more than that.

Legal Aid represents in civil matters only, not criminal. The Public Defender represents in criminal matters. But I suggest you consult with a criminal defense lawyer, first.

Agree with FIC pro se is foolish. You need a criminal defense lawyer.
