  • am i really harassing this person

i tried to reconnect with an ole friend from many years ago.. said friend instead of contacting me or ignoring the reconnect instead went to the police and told them i was harassing them.. there sole basis for this other then the complaint was that i inquired about this person on fb with a mutual friend and that i tried once to connect thru linkedin.. is this really harassment... i received a phone call and then a visit when i did not return the call in 24 hours... sounds a bit fishy to me...
    and a bit scarry....

    any thoughts,

    Illinois

Leave them alone. If contacted by the police, tell them you are being set up and therefore are exercising your right to remain silent. Do not agree to discuss the issue with anyone.
Due to a recent promotion, I should now be referred to as Major Obvious.

I would not be trying to provide information and knowledge if I did not sympathize.

Some days it is just not worth chewing through the restraints to face life.

I wish to inform you that the provisions of US Federal Anti-Cyber-Stalking law found at 47 U.S.C. § 223 will have jurisdiction in this matter. Further, conduct involving annoying behavior might fall short of illegal stalking.

You can be charged. However, the court will look at your conduct and see if you really bothered them, or continuously contacted them after you were told not to. Prior to making any statements with the police hire an attorney and disclose all the facts to him/her in more detail.

i am not and will not try to contact or attempt to contact this person again.. not worth the aggravation.. at this point i assume they just warned me by showing up and if i follow what they say nothing further will happen...

i had my brief 3 minute discussion with a detective where i was warned and have not done anything since nor will i... i assume that as long as i do nothing further i will be ok, correct

new question: is does this "report" stay on a permanent record and if it does for how long or if i behave myself it just goes away so to speak...

hope to hear from you soon, and thanks for the info

A report where no action was taken creates no "record" that anyone can see other than detectives or policemen in that unit.

Staying away from the person is the best avenue to take and you should have no further comeback from this.

so if someone would run a background check on me, nothing would show up outside of this particular municipality

and what do you mean by no action, does this mean that i just got a warning so to speak...

finally how do i make sure other then staying away to make sure the accuser does not try to set me up...

this has been great, and hope for more great advise...

Yep. All you got was a warning "not to trespass" so to speak. Walk away, leave it alone and no one will ever know.

i am leaving it alone, believe me...

i just want to make sure it does not come back to haunt me in the future...

If you managed to go so long without seeing them, it should not be difficult. If you see them in public walk away.

ok, so how do i make sure that they are not trying to set me up as in coming up with "fake" evidence... also are the detectives still looking over my shoulder or as long as i ignore and stay away i do not have to worry. are they somehow "shadowing" my on line time, such as e-mail, social media etc... how would i know this...

No real reason for them to do it. You never actually know. I think it is safe to say the massive gov't computer complex in SLC is not manufacturing Bit Coins to boost the sagging dollar.
