Re: Do I need to meet this officer or is it his job to find me?
Try the Law Society for free representation or referral to Legal Aid, for which you should qualify. The university law schools also maintain free legal clinics.
But you do need representation since these are criminal charges.
Once a police officer cites you, he has done his job. You need to take your direction from your lawyer and the court, not the man trying to see you convicted.

First of all Check Community based organizations for free legal aid and legal advice. There are organizations serving the legal needs of people who can't afford to hire a lawyer.- Quote

Everything is under control of the officer you can not do any thing without his permission, better to take his permission.- Quote

I would leave the police officer totally out of the picture until you see him in court. Your position now is to represent yourself as best you can before the judge. Should the officer fail to appear, then move to have the case dismissed for lack of prosecution.
The officer did his job when he cited you. The person you need to deal with now is the judge. Do contact the Law Society of your province to see if they can refer you to an agency that will represent you if they cannot. My experience in Canada was in B.C. so I regret to not being aware of the legal resources of your province.- Quote

Re: Do I need to meet this officer or is it his job to find me?
I wish to inform you that you can meet the police officer. When you meet with police at that time you can remain silent and may not admit any thing but meeting police officer will result in resolution of dispute. Further you can take someone along with you when you have gone for meeting so that there is evidence of what has been discussed at the meeting. If law enforcement has to take any action then they will take and meeting cannot attract further charges. Further if any charges have to be framed against you then you can know at the earliest. You can contact legal aid or in court you can inform that you need a lawyer and cannot afford so State will appoint you a lawyer or can self represent your self.

Do I need to meet this officer or is it his job to find me?
Very complex issue !!! Please read!!
I will explain every little detail and I ask you to please read the entire page, I know it's long but I want things to be perfectly clear so I can receive a clear answer. I will start by saying that to me this seems like a very complex issue. I will begin by going over my background, I don't have any criminal offenses however I have accumulated over $22 000 in driving fines for mainly no insurance and driving while suspended and because of this am on a very strict probation when it comes to driving. I worked very hard to get my license back and to obtain insurance with a registered car so I was driving legally. Back in March of this year I told my family MD of 22 years that I was smoking cannabis for night time anxiety which she had prescribed ativan, we have always had a very open relationship some telling her this shouldn't have been an issue. Without any notification my family MD had sent a letter to Motor Vehicle Registration stating that I was smoking cannabis and that it COULD be affecting my ability to drive a motor vehicle. Because of this my license was suspended and further more I was not notified of this in any way, shape or form. This resulted in myself continuing to drive while not realizing my license had been suspended( There is a min sentence for repeat offenders for driving while suspended and as well breeching a probation order.) and eventually on the May 24 th weekend I was hauled over by the RCMP on the highway in Newfoundland. I was charged with driving while suspended and a breach of probation as well as given a slip that said I needed to personally hand my car over to an impound lot within 7 days and summons for court at the end of July. I had explained to the officer that this was all a big misunderstanding so I was released on the promise to appear for court. I was very stressed out about this because the chances of me beating that even though I really did nothing wrong are almost nonexistent , so I called the crowns office everyday to see if they had received disclosure yet and everyday they didn't. 2 and 1/2 months go by and I have court the next morning when I receive a phone call from the RCMP officer that had given me the charges. He tells me that he has been off for some time and that he hadn't gotten a chance to send in the paper work, he then asks me to meet him to get new summons for a new court day and I told him I would call him back. I spoke with my family’s lawyer and he advised me not to help the officer with his job at all and to go to court as the date says on the original papers. I never messaged the officer back and later that night I received a text message from him saying that I did not have court the next morning and that he would meet me with new papers for a new date, I also did not respond to the message. When I went to court with the original papers the next day I received no help at all and no one had any idea what to tell me besides I was not being charged with anything so the documents I had stopped existing that second. 2 weeks have passed since that date and I received another text message today from this officer once again stating that he needs to meet me wherever is good for me sometime before the 14 of August and that the new court date is for the 25th of August. I called the crowns office and again they have nothing for me and I explained this to them again and just get allot of impatient people that have nothing to say besides please hold. My question is do I need to meet this officer or is it his job to find me? Also note that I live in St John's which is policed by the RNC not the RCMP , I was outside of town when the incident occurred if that has anything to do with my case. And secondly the papers he gave me were for the 27th of July so just because he says court is on the 25th of August don't I need to sign something to confirm that I recognize that fact that I have promised to appear? Because I promised to appear on the 27th and did, with no one being there but me. I really need some help as I am a 22 year old university student with very little money and cannot afford a lawyer at this time so I am hoping that this officer slacked off and I got lucky, if not I would please like some advice on how to approach this case as I will almost certainly be representing myself.Tags: None- Quote
