    State: Washington
I sold my car to a neighbor for 1500 dollars.

We just shook on it and he paid.

My daughter told me it has to be in writing she she thinks...is that right?

The sale was 3 weeks ago and all is fine so does it even matter?

No, it doesn't have to be in writing although a bill of sale would have been advisable.

Make sure you have filed your sold notice to the WA DMV.

You're right, though, probably doesn't matter now.

I wish to inform you that in Washington agreement must be in writing if value of good is above $500. You may now have a written agreement in order to comply with the requirement regarding written contract. Under Statue of Frauds agreement for sale of goods above $500 must be in writing.
