Where does the Uniform Commercial Code apply?

I recently made a craigslist transaction with someone, selling a cameral lens. They were informed that I did not know if the lens would fit his camera, and he agreed to buy it anyway. Now he says that it doesnt fit and that under UCC codes, I am obligated to give him a refund. I am not interested in taking this any farther than the two of us, but I just want to know what I am held accountable for in this situation.

If he agreed to buy it, the UCC is not really going to protect or help him. He made a binding deal. You can let him know that.

PLEASE do not believe the previous post! That is completely untrue. Just because a person agreed to purchase a product does not mean that their promise is binding. There are several things that you have to know to determine whether the UCC applies, and the first is how your state adopted it. Although it's called "Uniform", the states had the option of adopting it, and they did. Some adopted it entirely, some in part, etc. So you have to know what state you're in, and their version. Most likely, the UCC will govern this transaction because you sold a movable good. But that doesn't mean that you need to give him a refund. Without knowing what state you're in, I can't help any more than that.

Ucc does apply. he knew he had limited knowledge and assumed the risk and moved forward anyway=he bears the risks= you are ok. look at restatement of contracts section 154 (b). This is not law, but it is a good summary of the idea.

ucc applies in every state except Louisiana, where only part of it applies
