They have to let you give the car back and you need not pay any cost at all.

I bought a car paid $1500 down payment on January 24, 2007 received and signed a retail installment sale contract and invoice. They Car salesman told me that I had been approved for financing with a company, on 20 mar 07, they are saying financing did not get approved this was the only company who could finance, what are my legal rights? can I get my down payment back?
