I am an American working in the middle east.A few months ago before coming here I was residing in Belgium. I had a furniture lease there with a balance of 14000 Euro (long term lease) with an early termination clause of 90% of the remaining balance. I left Belgium and have returned the furniture. They state they are considering turning it over to attorneys in the US. What is their chance of success should they actually sue? Would a personal contract in Belgium be enforceable in US courts?

Re: Broken furniture lease in Belgium
I wish to inform you that US court could not be said to have jurisdiction in your matter because you are not residing in USA. Generally every court require that defendant must be resident of the place or contract must have occurred within its jurisdiction. If a lawsuit against you is filed then you can have the lawsuit dismissed that you do not reside there and demand costs. If you will not contest then court can grant default judgment against you. A contract in Belgium can be enforced in the jurisdiction where it is made or in jurisdiction where party to contract resides.
