Debt Collection Judgement (Suffolk Community College)

My son acquired a $800.00 debt from Suffolk Community College over ten years ago. He now received a judgement notice for over $3,000.00. My question is will the Statute of Limitations Law apply here? Appreciate your consideration to my question.
