  • Subscriber Problem about Suddeutsche Zeitung

    Hello,

I am writing to you with the following problem. I received a letter from Suddeutsche Zeitung GmbH that I must pay my subscription
In total 118,40 EUR. I came from China to Germany on a business trip for a few months and I cannot read or understand German. So I was very surprised to see that I have to pay for a subscription for a German newspaper.
Obviously this is some mistake .
My colleague made a call to the Suddeutsche Zeitung. He tell me, I have subscribe in the website for two weeks newpaper(free). After two weeks, they send a letter to me. It says if you don't want keep the subscriber, send a letter to cancel it. But I can't understand the German. So, I missed this letter.
I think this is their problem. Anyone can help me?

This problem is with your understanding of the language. Websites and newspapers often offer free trial subscriptions after which you must pay. You are expected to and understand what you are agreeing to, and the company holds you liable for doing so. If you didn't completely comprehend what the site was asking, you should never have proceeded.

I suggest that you pay up, or find someone who speaks German to try to convince them to waive the charges. I doubt they'll be successful.

Unless the terms you blindly agreed to say it can't be cancelled, then there shouldn't be a problem doing so. You may be required to fulfill certain requirements to cancel, such as making your request in writing, or there may be a cancellation fee.
