We recently sold a car that we have had few problems with in the seven years we owned it, we just wanted a newer and bigger car for a growing family. Well two months after we sold it we got a certified letter that said that we owe them $3000 for repairs done to the car since they bought it. They also want us to buy the car back from them for the original purchase price of $4000. They bought the car on the spot when they came and looked at it. We told them everything we knew about that old car (12 years old, 167,000 miles!), like that the cd player didn't work, the back wiper had trouble, etc. We had even put brand new tires on it and a new battery to make sure it was in good condition for sale. They never got it inspected and when we suggested that they should because it is an old car, they said no, they trusted us that it was a good car. And it had been for us! Do they have the ability to sue us? Are we obliged to pay them anything? It seems to me that it is their car now and they need to take responsibility for it. We have no idea how they have been driving or treating the car for two months, or if the repairs are even real or necessary because they had all the work done before even contacting us. Please help!
