  • Attorney could no longer represent me due to a conflict of interest

I hired an attorney to represent me in a dispute and employment contract review. I signed a contract and agreed to pay him an hourly rate. As my bill approached $1,000.00 for his time, he realized who owned the company and told me he could no longer represent me in this matter due to a conflict of interest. I do not feel that it is my responsibility to determine if there is a conflict of interest and I would like to know if I have to pay this bill. I also have to find another attorney to represent me in this matter now becaue he cannot do this. Please let me know what my rights are or if I need to hire someone else to take care of this. Thank you!

You are correct and should ask for a refund.
