Thanks Affa. It's actually more that once they lawfully gained the information, they then shared it with a third party without my permission.

i wish to inform you that the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and the EU data protection directive of 1995 will have jurisdiction in this matter. It is an offence under Section 55 of the Data Protection Act to unlawfully obtain personal data. You may seek relief under the provisions of the Data Protection Act.

During the process of evaluating my application for life assurance cover, the underwriter shared elements of my personal medical information with my independent financial advisor (IFA) that I would not wish anyone to know. This is more pertinent as the IFA is a close friend of my mother.

I complained about them doing so. They have tried to obfuscate the matter and will not accept responsibility. I wish to pursue legally. Can I? What are the penalties for them should I win? I am based in the UK.

    Thanks in advance.
